Dog with fleas

How to get rid of fleas

Fleas are a common problem for every cat or dog owner. Thankfully, there are a number of treatments available to prevent and treat these pests. If you notice your dog constantly scratching, then it may be wise to check for fleas. This is especially important considering the hot weather we've been getting recently.

Steps To Treat Fleas

1. If possible wash your dog or cat using an insecticidal shampoo.

2. Treat the bedding and soft furnishings with home flea spray or powder.

  • If a flea problem is detected on a pet you need to treat the home along with the pet to ensure that any eggs are also killed. This includes carpets, rugs and pet bedding. We would recommend using Johnsons Household Flea Spray or Johnsons 4 Fleas Room Fogger.

Insecticidal shampoos are available to treat and prevent any flea infestations. But for longer lasting protection, we recommend either using a flea-preventative collar, or the more popular drop method. This is where drops of flea and tick repelling treatment can be placed on the back of your pet’s neck to prevent fleas from returning to your pet. You can apply Spot-On drops after washing your pet to give protection against fleas and ticks. It last for up to 4 weeks and can be applied regularly to prevent further outbreaks.
